If you want to work in law enforcement or criminal justice there are a lot more options to working in criminal justice than just working as a police officer or corrections guard. With a Criminal Justice degree you could work within the court system work in parole or probations, court services, court administration, police administration, prison administration and other support roles. With a Criminal Justice degree you can also go on to work in more advanced areas of Criminal Justice like Criminal Psychology, Criminal Forensics, Computer Forensics, Security, Criminology, Sociology, Behavioral Science and more. In order to get a job in one of the more advanced areas of Criminal Justice you will have to have at least a four year Criminal Justice degree and then you will probably have to go on for more advanced degrees in order to truly become successful in the field but you can start with a Criminal Justice degree. Criminal Justice can be an exciting and rewarding field to work in and you can achieve a lot of success in the Criminal Justice field if you have a Criminal Justice degree. Some support roles in Criminal Justice don't require that you have a degree but employers will favor people who have a Criminal Justice degree for those jobs over those people that don't have degrees. If you want to have a career in law enforcement as a detective or a special investigator then you will have to get a Criminal Justice degree in order to be considered to train for those positions. Criminal Justice degrees are offered in a traditional classroom setting or online. Many working adults choose to study for a Criminal Justice degree online instead of in a traditional classroom setup.

Criminal Justice degree programs cover a wide range of social sciences including Psychology, Sociology and even a little Philosophy. When you enter a Criminal Justice degree program you may not know exactly what area of Criminal Justice that you want to go into as a career but that's ok, you don't need to know that right away. During the course of your Criminal Justice degree program you will be learning science, math, and social science and it's to be expected that you won't know which of those areas you will to concentrate on until you have experienced them all. When you go into a Criminal Justice degree program you will get to explore a lot of different career options that fall within the Criminal Justice job description and you might have a hard time picking which career option will be best for you but you will always be able to find a job in Criminal Justice because every society needs law enforcement and security forces and the support staff to make sure that the law enforcement system runs smoothly. The four major divisions with a Criminal Justice program are police, security, probations, and corrections so it's very likely that no matter what type of Criminal Justice career you choose it will fall under one of those categories. If those categories of study interest you then you might be very happy getting a Criminal Justice degree.
