Car wax is a protective coating applied to the external coat of the automobile so as to prevent oxidation. The protective layer formed by the car wax is only enough to save the paint from oxidation and it cannot form complete protection from all damage, such as bird droppings and scratches from heavy objects. Car wax also gives your vehicle a natural shine and saves it from harsh environment.
Car wax forms a thin transparent layer over the cars exterior paint thus forming a primary protection against any harm caused to the automobile. This layer helps in covering minor scratches and stone chips by making them less visible. Car wax also reduces corrosion due to water as it forms a seal on the pain through which water cannot enter. Car wax has to be reapplied regularly and is not permanent. A good quality car wax generally stays on for around 3 to 4 months thus reapplication of car wax every 3 months would be optimum.
IT is advisable that before waxing a car it should be buffered for any irregularities and to remove scratches, after which the wax should be applied, which is repeated every three months. The requirements to wax your car, is a good quality wax, a clean towel and a small sponge. Ensure that you car is clean and dry before you initiate the process of waxing your car. Be careful as to take a non abrasive car wax so as to not damage your car. Advisably you should go through directions provided on the package itself and test the wax on a small area first so as to check if it is right for your car.
If you choose a liquid polish, it should be shaken so as the liquid is mixed thoroughly and then it should be applied on a sponge which then is to be applied all over the car evenly. A general approach is to start with the top and move the bottom panels subsequently as it is known that the bottom panels of a car are always dirtier. It is advisable to apply a thin layer evenly all over the car and care should be taken that the layer is not too thick which could reduce the lustre of the car. Waxing any other part other than the painted metal part is not a good idea as it will leave a white mark all over the rubber or glass parts.
After applying the wax evenly all over, wait for a couple of minutes before buffing it for a nice and shiny look. Car wax if used regularly is considered beneficial for the car as it reduced scratches and gives the car a nice shiny look.
