Aerators: A Good Water Oxygenation Method

The aerators are used by the companies and the municipal department for oxygenating the wastewater in ponds, lakes, industrial effluents and sewage also.

The high-speed aerator is actually mechanical aeration equipment that is used to pump out the wastewater so as to add some more oxygen in it. The integral components of an aerator are motor, gearbox, and impeller. The system with the Radial or Axial impeller mixes the water of deep tanks without using draft tubes. These impellers also reduce shock loads that are transmitted to drive unit due to wave action.

There are different types of aerators with different speed of rotation of the impeller. These systems also have mist deflectors that help in deflecting the mist on the bridge, and basin baffles in it prevent vortexing. These aerators are easy to install and require simple maintenance. Even the operation of the system is very reliable and economical.

Diffuse Aerator
The pond is aerated by using different aerators like diffused and surface on ponds with different characteristics, like diffused aerator is used in ponds and lakes with more than 8 feet depth. The diffused aeration system helps in infusing air in the pond by destratifying the water column through the power of air.

The diffused aerator setup includes a diffuser in the bottom of the pond in which the air compressor pushes the air via tubes. When the air gets collected in the diffuser in the bottom then the diffuser breaks the collected air into the air bubbles. Thereafter these bubbles rise towards the upper surface then they break and increase oxygen content of the pond water.

The bubbles further destratify the water that results in mixing of oxygen deprived water in the bottom with the oxygen rich water on the surface. This mixing of water helps in releasing of the harmful and noxious gases in the pond into the atmosphere. The Diffused aeration method is very advantageous as it is energy efficient and safe also as the electrical wires are kept outside. It causes minimal surface agitation that helps in maintaining the smooth look of both lake and pond.

Surface Aerator
Surface aerators are also called as floating aerators, as the pump is not mounted under a water layer at the surface, nor at the bottom that’s why they are more useful in shallow ponds and lakes. The aerator pumps the water from the pond, at the surface or into the air. This help in oxygenation of pond water as when the water is pumped high in the air or on pond surface then this interaction helps in expulsion of harmful gases and transfer of oxygen into the pond water.

As the pumping of water is done on the upper layers of the pond so it’s not beneficial for low depth water. The surface aerators also add aesthetic appeal to the pond with the help of different spray patterns. The surface aerator that creates a wide display with fine mist due to turbulence at the pond surface helps in effective oxygenation of the pond water.

Surface aerators are vertical shaft aerators that are used to transfer the oxygen to industrial effluent and sewage. There are variety of aerators in the market with different designs and sizes. One can easily search these aerators with price value on different websites.
