Those who want serious results from their workout can find many ways to give their efforts a boost. Here are some easy ways to maximize workouts.
1. Increase the length of the workout. While health experts recommend that everyone should get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day, in order to lose weight and get fit, people should do more than that. Consider working out for 45, 60 or even 90 minutes in order to see results quickly.
2. Increase the intensity of every workout. Those who walk for exercise should consider doing so carrying light weights, such as light dumbbells, soup cans or bottles of water. There are vests specifically designed to add weight during walking workouts. Perhaps walkers could consider adding jogging or even running to their workout. Adding weight or additional exertion makes the body worker harder, so results will be seen sooner.
3. Drink plenty of water. The body quickly gets dehydrated during exertion and those fluids must be replenished so the body can work efficiently. In fact, many experts believe that what most of us think of as hunger pangs are really the first signs of dehydration.
4. Eat right. Strenuous workouts are wasted efforts if someone continues to eat junk food. The body needs protein, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. While it needs a little fat to absorb some vitamins, it certainly does not need candy, cookies or chips. Those foods were only intended to be special treats to be sampled on rare occasions, not an everyday occurrence.
5. Rest. Overdoing a workout can lead to muscle soreness, fatigue and injury. While one should increase the duration and intensity of a workout in order to see results more quickly, there is such a thing as overdoing it. Stop at the first sign of pain or injury. Also, allow a break at least one day a week to give the body time to recover.
6. Vary the workout. When the body gets used to doing the same thing day after day, it no longer has to work as hard. By varying the workout, different muscles of the body have a chance to firm up. This may be the time to try a new activity. Consider a team sport if previous workouts have been solitary up to now. Join a club or train for a race.
7. Get adequate instruction. Even those who have worked out religiously can use a few reminders now and that. Over time it is easy to get sloppy during a workout: Posture, motions, breathing can all suffer and the workout won't be as effective. From time to time ask an expert to monitor a workout and offer suggestions. Or, watch the instructional portion of a workout video to look for tips that may have been forgotten.
With all the hard work that goes into a fitness regimen, it is important to maximize each workout to see the effects quickly. Take advantage of these seven tips to start seeing results in the shortest possible time. It will be amazing to see what can happen in a matter of weeks.
