It is also a great way to keep your hands busy and your mind occupied when you are just sitting. Perhaps listening and watching TV. It's great too for passing away time while traveling and the scenery isn't too good. For some people, it is almost a form of meditation.
Many people give their work to charities, where it is appreciated by the underprivileged, particularly in the winter as knitted wear is usually very good for keeping warm. Some people even sell their creations.
My Mother, especially in her elder years, whiled away the time and kept busy while watching her soap operas. She made babies booties and pajamas and blankets, sweaters for her children and grandchildren, Afghans, quilts, and throws. She even made long skirt dresses and bonnets for dolls she would purchase and then sell them to friends. It kept her occupied until she was unable to knit any longer. Arthritis.
If you think you can't knit or don't have a creative imagination, or design ideas, there are lots of instruction catalogs on knitting with ideas and patterns that will surely spark your imagination. You only need to add yarn color and your ideas, if any.
With Knitting, the beauty you can create has no end, and you surely won't be able to say you are bored and have nothing to do.
