A person is what he or she thinks deep down in his heart. It is the senses that help the mind to make sense of the world. Is it true then to say that the world exists because of our sense perceptions?
What good are the senses if we did not have the heart to appreciate and feel the beauty of everything that constitutes life! Here I am not talking of the emotional heart only.
The emotions are extremely vital to our being balanced, our being happy or sad. There are other higher emotions that are spiritual in nature like kindness, compassion, love, peace and harmony.
They belong to the Heart Chakra and not the lower emotional heart. Would it be most appropriate to say then that I have the heart, therefore I exist!
The psychologists and scientists among us identify consciousness with the mind and the mind with the brain. The fact is that brain is just tool in the domain of the mind and mind is only an instrument of reflection.
Most people think it is the mind that gets things done and we become what we think all day. Somehow this statement seems accurate and erroneous at the same time.
We also know that the monkey mind keeps on thinking and churning all day long, sometimes without any goals or focus or resolve. No doubt it is the mind that is a marvelous tool to get things done.
But where would the mind be if there were no will or resolve to get things done? What if the paradigms on which those decisions of the mind are based, is not in sync with what is right and virtuous?
We need not only the qualities of head but that of heart also. Heart has to be involved. At the cellular level, we now know that the heart cells are in constant communication with the brain cells and whatever we firmly resolve in the heart get instantly transferred to the brain or mind through the electronic waves from the heart.
Mainstream scientists think that mind or brain is the seat of human consciousness and talk of mental patterns taking into consideration the psychology of the mind, without acknowledging its spiritual reality.
Cerebellum which consists of about 50 billion neurons cannot be the center of consciousness and if it was removed, you will have motor problems but you would still be able to walk and still be the same person.
But if you lose your cerebral cortex, you will have no consciousness. Why because it is directly wired to all sense perceptions and is linked to the heart in ways the scientist have not been able to figure it out yet.
This is where the so-called super-string theory comes into being. There are tiny vibrating strings that underlie all energy and matter, and that connect the heart with every part of the body through this Pranic force, the Chinese call it Chi and the Indians call it Prana and which is connected the entire universe.
Heart is the central power house from where this energy emanates and gets to different chakras in the body.
Much has been written about our sub-conscious mind and its enormous potential but it is still a part of our lower mind and cannot be a part of higher consciousness.
It is the higher intelligence connected to the heart, and not the sub-conscious mind, that does trillions of metabolic functions pertaining to our body, without our conscious or sub-conscious mind knowing or doing anything.
Everything emanates from cosmic consciousness and the everyday experiences like thoughts, feelings, aspirations, dreams, goals and ambitions are part of our conditioned consciousness. These become a part of the conditioning of our lower mind and have a very limited scope in our growth process.
The mainstream scientists think that it is the body that creates consciousness, will and intelligence; they need to get a reality check: it is the pure consciousness that creates our reality.
The essence of this is well described in Chandogya Upanishad (14.4), Sandilya said: "The Self gives rise to all desires, all tastes and all odors which pervade the universe. That who is joy abiding and beyond words is ever present in the heart. To That I shall attain when my ego dies."
It is more important to know our core passions and our spiritual acuity or our true nature from our hearts. One of the reasons why we have so much suffering, so much poverty, so much violence, so much acute imbalance and turmoil in today's world is, because heart has not been involved in our personal, social, financial and political lives.
It is more important to get our hearts involved and to see how to resolve the differences of the hearts. In heart-centeredness lie the bounties of love, empathy, kindness, compassion and selflessness.
We all know God the way we were told by our parents. Most people end up thinking that their God is better or superior than God of a different religion.
This type of thinking is childish indeed. It is this type of fanatical thinking that leads to hate, violence and communal riots. When you have love in your heart, it is the start of true religion. God has no religion.
God or Allah was not born when Mohammed or Jesus was born or when Buddha saw the light of the day. God does not reside in holy places or places of worship only.
Where on Earth is God? He sure is not seen in the churches, temples or mosques; they are all empty most of the time! All religions are man-made.
God is in every moment, in every breath and in every space, in every atom and in each galaxy. God is in the heart-held nobility of our intentions.
Sure there is this invisible power that nobody can see with eyes. Why would this power need to confine itself into rigid boundaries, creeds or dogmas or any four brick walls?
As Shakespeare wrote: "To thine own self be true and it follows as the night the day that thou cannot then be false to any man."
There is a longing deep within us, pure in essence, unconditioned by society, upbringing, education or parental influence. There is something so unique in each one of us that it eludes us until we become aware of it. We keep going in circles, we keep chasing the mirage but we remain empty inside. It is like a dream that vanishes the moment we wake up. The worldly conditioning keeps us enveloped in the mendacity of everyday life.
Our bodies are magnificent tools to experience the joys and sorrows of life. We spend all our waking moments gathering the so-called material comforts of life. All the worldly things, careers, professional achievements, accolades, material attachments and all the gadgets in the world cannot bring the inner bliss one experiences in the solitude of one's Inner-self.
Until we learn to hear the music that emanates from our hearts, we keep going nowhere. The true you is connected to your heart. There lies the true essence of your being on this planet.
There is this unalloyed bliss that is connected to the essence of what you are but you are the only one to uncover it. The only way to uncover this is to get anchored in the purity of your heart and in those moments of silence you will hear heart's yearning to know the Real You.
