We knew that “blog” was short for “weblog,” so we searched on “history of weblogs” to answer your question.
A weblog is usually defined as a personal or noncommercial web site that uses a dated log format (usually with the most recent addition at the top of the page) and contains links to other web sites along with commentary about those sites. A weblog is updated frequently and sometimes groups links by specific subjects, such as politics, news, pop culture, or computer issues.

Some people are of the opinion that Mosaic’s What’s New page in 1993 was the first weblog. It was essentially a list of links that a few people thought were worth passing along to others. However, it wasn’t until December 1997 that Jorn Barger coined the term “weblog” in his Robot Wisdom Weblog.

In 1998, only a handful of blogs existed, and many of the bloggers knew each other and linked to each other’s sites. Rebecca Blood, author of The Weblog Handbook, notes that one preeminent site listed only 23 blogs in existence at the beginning of 1999. The media started noticing blogs later in 1999 and drew attention to the phenomenon. But it was the proliferation of free weblog-creation programs in 1999 that made blogging into a hugely popular pastime. Before this software was widely available, most weblogs were hand-coded by web developers and others who taught themselves HTML. The new programs made it easy for anyone to create their own weblog.

Blogger was released in August 1999 and was an immediate hit. This simple weblog application allows users to create any kind of weblog they desire. By October 2000, Blogger users were creating 300 new blogs a day, and the Blogger directory had over 5,500 blogs listed. In November of the same year, the 10,000th Blogger weblog was created. As of 2002, Blogger claimed over 750,000 users.

The rise of tools like Blogger also changed the content of weblogs. While they had begun as link-driven sites offering alternative viewpoints on news and other subjects, weblogs began to collide with online journals. Blogger-style tools allowed links and commentary to quickly grow into longer essays and diaries on the Web. Online journals had existed before this, but weblog applications made journals easier to manage for those who didn’t know HTML.

Weblogs and online journals are often confused, and they can frequently overlap in content and style. But purists point out that a person writing in an online journal or diary is logging their life, not the Web. Weblogs still exist to log what’s going on around the World Wide Web

There is a good saying in the movie, When Harry Met Sally. It goes this way, “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” To start that new life, people get married. A wedding is a big day in everyone’s life. Everyone wants this day to be special and that is why a lot of thought goes into planning a wedding. The following wedding blog mentions wedding ideas that can help you in the wedding planning.

When your boyfriend pops the big question and you say yes, you have to formally announce this to the whole world. You can call up friends and family to tell them or you can make use of engagement announcement cards. Many people also write wedding blogs that are posted on the Internet which keeps their friends and relatives updated about the wedding plans.

The most important factor that will affect a lot of other wedding ideas is the budget. It is essential that you and your partner should agree on a budget and then stick to it. It is one of the first things you plan together. So remember to be specific about it. You can adjust a little here and there to accommodate unexpected expenses. This budget will allow for catering costs, wedding hall, entertainment, limousine, etc.

You have to set a wedding date. Ask your clergy what dates are available. The churches get booked months in advance, so make sure you do the booking at the earliest possible time. This is a very important step in wedding planning. Also choose a number of places that can be your wedding locations for picture taking and find out which ones are near the church you choose. Then look at the reception halls in the vicinity. Most halls take a non-refundable minimum deposit. Many halls include the food in the contract. So check the quality of food before you book the hall. After you are done with booking the church and the hall, print your wedding invitation card.

You will then need to choose the best man, maid of honor, bridesmaids and groomsmen. Do not go for a large bridal party. Also remember that the ones you choose as the bridal party will have to invest in formal wear. This will put them under a financial burden. So make sure that they can afford it and then choose. Stick to people from close family and friends when choosing the bridal party.

Then you have to decide on the color and theme of the wedding. You may want to opt for a beach wedding or a traditional wedding. Depending on what you want, you will then decide the colors that you choose for the flowers, the décor, etc.

Wedding planning also includes choosing the florist, the caterer and the wedding band. Inform the florist where you are going to need the floral arrangements delivered to. You will need center pieces, your bridal bouquet, bouquets for the bridesmaid, mother of the bride, etc. Ask married couples for references for the caterer and do not forget to taste the food that is going to be served. The wedding musician should be informed beforehand about what type of music is to be played and at what time.

Last but not the least, enjoy your day. After all, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The Hobby of Blogging writing to Earn;

The hobby of blogging has now become a great way to earn a little extra money and be a side business. There are still many people who enjoy blogging as their hobby or a way to display their creativity but at the same time, earning some money on the side. So where do you draw the line? What kind of role does money play when it comes to blogging? If you are a first time blogger or have been blogging for a long time, the first thing you need to decide before making that first post is what your motivation really is. If your number one goal for blogging is to make lot money, you should probably look for a different business. Many are having great success with their blogs but for most, they are not going to be millionaires off their blog. When you decide to start blogging, you shouldn't make it all about the money. Focus on your readers first and when you are trying to meet their needs first is when you receive the most benefits. If you want to know what they want to read, ask them. A lot of times you don't even need to ask them, you can just read the different comments that they have left. Many will leave suggestions for other posts or ask questions that could spark a whole new topic. When you are focusing on your readers, they will enjoy what they are reading and pass the blog onto others. If you are making a little extra money from your blog, then treat it like a business. Try your best to get good advertisements and publicity. There is much to learn by treating your blog like a business, whether or not you are looking for it. If your first go at having a blog isn't very successful as you would like, make a few changes and see if that helps. When the money does start to come from your blog, make sure to pay yourself. The more time you spend on the blog, the better it will be and the more hits you will get. Reward yourself for that hard work before you invest the money in the blog or a different business. And don't feel guilty by earning money from your hobby. There are hundreds out there doing just the same. If you feel like you have what it takes to be a good blogger but don't really know where to start or how to set it all up with the advertisers, the links, making posts and everything else then a partnership would be the right way to go. If you can't find someone who wants to go into business with you, there are plenty of bloggers who are looking for writers all the time. Look for what fits your personality the best. Don't settle for the first job you find because there are plenty of opportunities available. Blogging can be a great way to earn some extra money, just find what works best for and stick to it!

Ever have one of those dreams when you are doing everything you can to run at a full sprint, but it feels like your legs are thigh deep in black tar Or, you're trying like heck to shout a very important message to someone you love, like Get out of the way The train coming or Watch out There is a giant shark fin right behind you but all that comes out is strained, laryngit is ized hot air

This is what is happening in my life right now. I sit across from friends and business associates, talk with entrepreneurs and small business owners, and share strategy sessions with larger companies and corporations, and I mention the possibility of them blogging. There is a universal glazed look, often followed by a shrug, or a nose crinkle. Eh, I do not see the point, or Yeah, I thought about that…

I know it is my job to just let it go, and I do, because every business person knows the I am not ready to talk about this look. Oh, but it is killing me Because if you are serious about your business, career, or professional reputation, there is absolutely no reason for you not to publicize your interest and expertise in the form of a blog.

A blog is conversational. It comes alive with YOUR distinct voice, style, and proclivities. It dies if it is fueled by the dreaded Corpspeak, stiff language, or totally self conscious and safe, play by the rules drivel.

A blog is FREE. Or extremely low cost, depending on how you go. I mean, COME ON, what else is FREE these days

A blog is a mirror. It is an organized trail of your ideas, experience, and hints at your vision. It is ALSO a living, breathing organic organism that grows as you grow. It is like one of those smart computers that develops its own life and personality over time.
A blog is search engine friendly. It is PROOF you know your industry or subject matter. It is PROOF you are active in your business and niche.

A blog is a way to connect with other like minded professionals. When you comment on someone else blog, or when they comment on yours, it is like a quick, manly nod that says, Hey. Saw your post. Liked it. Peace out.

A blog is a simple, searchable content management system. Why, oh why, are you hoarding all of your industry knowledge to yourself Are you saving it for posterity Do you think St. Peter will give you extra points for having a huge collection of inaccessible folders on your computer

-- A blog is FUN, darnit It is a chance to just be you, and even see and experience your own voice and priorities over time.

Sure, a lot of blogging gurus say there are rules like, you should blog at least three times a week or be strategic or keep posts short; avoid long tangents like this one. And a lot of PAGs that is People Against Blogging say no one reads them, or they are a waste of time, or all of the above. But to this I say, WHO CARES

No one reading your darn internal folders, or going through your file cabinets, but you still throw articles and information in there

Why not claim your intellectual territory and put a select and steady amount of information, opinions, photos, and energy OUT THERE to be discovered by one or more of the proverbial masses, if and when they come looking for you or the information, knowledge, products, or services you have to offer

God did not just not bother with Antarctica because he figured no one would ever find the frigid continent, right And now, with advances in technology, we get to watch fine films like March of the Penguins,National Treasure, and The X-Files Movie.

If you have a passion,specialty, niche, mission, or business and you gotta have at least one of those things, unless you are a corpse…or Paris Hilton, then START BLOGGING. Do not worry about traffic. Don't worry about the nit picky stuff.

Do it imperfectly. Find your voice. Discover your flow. Loosen up. Be bold. Get yourself out there.

And if you refuse, please answer this one question.

Blog is short for Web Log or Weblog and the Blogosphere is the online blog world, some parts of which are hyperlinked extensively to each other.

This is the Wikipedia definition: Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal (or newsletter) that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or the Web site.

I recommend that you read lots of people's blogs to learn what blogs are. Go to your favorite search engine and type in the word 'blog' and the subject you're interested in. For example, 'web design blog', or 'blog music', or 'sports blog'. You'll find lots of blogs that way.

Blogs have become a way in which regular, non-technical people can post information to the Web as easily as they can access it.

Why Are Blogs So Important?

Well, they're not that important, yet. But they could be soon, and most likely will be. In fact, some would argue that they are already vital in today's Web business world. I am not ready to agree to that yet, but it is becoming more obvious to me over time that blogs can no longer be ignored in business.

Online businesses can benefit from blogging by taking advantage of a vehicle for easily posting new, original, and business-related content on a regular basis.

Here Are Some More Business Benefits Of Blogging:

* Blogs help to position you and/or your company as experts and leaders in your industry.

* They're interactive in nature. At the end of each blog entry is usually a link that allows anyone to add their own comments to your blog entries. This allows your customers and potential customers to make comments about your products or services or ask you questions to help them in their buying process.

* Blogs are marketed easily and quickly by their RSS feeds.

* Blogs allow you to stress your choice of products, services, relevant news stories, quotes, pictures and more with your audience, customers and potential customers.

* People are generous with adding links to your blog if the content is good, especially within their own blogs. More links means more traffic and better search engine rankings.

Here Are Some Ways In Which You Can Make Revenue From Your Blog:

1. Selling advertisements. Whether you use banners or text links, if your site draws a regular audience interested in your blog topics or theme, try to offer ad space to organizations that are looking to market to your audience. In fact, if your blogs becomes really popular then advertisers will call you.

2. Offering Google's AdSense. Google's website explains, "Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant Google ads on their website's content pages and earn money." Learn more about AdSense.

3. Affiliate Programs. Affiliate programs allow Web sites that provide links to your site to receive payments or reciprocal advertising in exchange for promoting your Web site. In the case of blogging, this is reversed, where you post links within your blog, and collect money from the owners of those links when they result in a click-through and sale.

Here Are Some Websites Where You Can Get Your Blog Listed:

* BlogWise - http://www.blogwise.com

* Blog Search Engine - http://www.blogsearchengine.com

* Blog Hub - http://www.bloghub.com

* Blog Daisey - http://www.blogdaisey.com

* Get Blogs - http://www.getblogs.com

* Is Blogs - http://www.lsblogs.com

How To Blog For Business:

First you need to get blogging software. You can choose to create a blog that is housed on another site such as http://www.blogger.com (which is a blog service) or you can host it on your own Web server. I recommend the latter since the links that are developed by others pointing to your blog won't be counted in the search engines. This is because the links are attributed to domains, so a link to http://MyNewBlog.blogger.com gives a link credit to blogger.com and not your domain.

If your blog is a business blog, you really ought to host your own blog as opposed to using a blog service. You'll need the extra functionality and control.

If you plan on hosting your own blog and if you plan to use a UNIX Web server platform, then you need to go with blogging software such as Movable Type, for example. If you have a Microsoft Web server platform for your site, then you'll need software such as BetaParticle blog. Here is a great list of various blog software: http://www.lights.com/weblogs/tools.html

Next you'll need a database to hook your blog up to. The database is what stores the blog entries, among other things. If you don't know if you have a database on or connected to your website server, or if you don't know how to hook up your blog to your database, contact your host company or Web server administrator for help.

Once you have the blog set up on your domain (for example http://www.MyWebsite.com/blog) and you've hooked it up to a live database, you can start blogging. Generally, each entry is also a day. So you can write a new entry every day, or whenever you want, and that entry will show up on the blog at the top, moving older entries below.

You ought to think of a theme for your blog. In other words, your blog could be about your personal experiences in the industry you're in. It could be about your company's product reviews, or new services. It could be about your thoughts and opinions about issues related to your industry. It could be a place where you regularly find and list new resources to help others in your industry. The list is endless. But be sure to stick to a theme and be original. You want to offer something of value to your website visitors.

Sticking to a theme helps you position yourself for future advertisers and also makes for better reading for your visitors. Furthermore, you want to give a good impression with your blog with each and every entry if you want it to augment your online business. Finally, sticking to a theme helps with the search engines since it's believed that engines determine website themes and use this information for ranking.

Of course your blog could be about personal things too. Many blogs are just that, an online journal. But since we're interested in Web business here, I am discussing business blogs only.

What's great is that blogs get indexed easily and quickly by search engines. Each entry is another "page" that can be potentially listed in Google for example, which will drive more traffic to your site.

Another neat thing about running a blog once it's set up is that you do not need to be technical at all to make regular entries. This is helpful if you want to delegate the writing to someone else, since technical skills won't be a prerequisite. This allows you to have the most qualified person regarding the blog's theme and, hopefully the best writer, actually making the entries.

Be creative. Add images to your blog entries to spice things up a bit. Although blogging can be lonely, keep at it. Sometimes it seems like you're just writing new entries each day for yourself only. It may be a while before someone chooses to add a comment to one of your entries. You may not hear from anyone for a long time. But that doesn't mean people aren't reading it. In fact, check your website statistics to see just how many people are visiting your new blog. As you add more entries, get your blog listed on other sites and market your blog. It will build, and eventually you'll have a nice following of engaged readers.

Most importantly, be sure to pepper your entries with calls to action. For example, if your business blog is attached to your travel website and the blog's theme is traveling and finding great travel deals all over the world, make sure you add a link to an entry that points people to a travel special you're running on your website. What would be even better is a blog entry about the fantastic vacation you took to Hawaii and included at the end was a link to cheap Hawaii vacation deals on your website.

Blogging for profit involves specific knowledge of how to make money online, although if you are only blogging for traffic then you are guaranteed that if you link your website to your blog.

In order to blog for profit, or to make money in other words, you need to understand the principles of Google Adsense, a selling advertising space on your blog and affiliate marketing. You could also advertise your products on your blog if you have any to sell, but you will likely be doing the selling from your website and that is another technique altogether.

Before discussing ways in which you can use your blog to make money, let’s first discuss your blog, and where you are operating it from. If your blog is a Blogger or Wordpress blog hosted by either of these two, then your options are very limited when compared to uploading your own blogging software from wordpress.org. If you are serious about blogging for money then you should do so from your own website.

If you have no web host as yet, and are seeking one from which to operate your blog, then make sure that your host offers MySQL. You will need that to run Wordpress from your website. The reason that Wordpress is recommended is that it is the best blogging software online if you have your own website. If you do not, then many people prefer Blogger, although others still use Wordpress from the Wordpress.com site.

I will not go further into this because it is not the object of this article, which is to recommend ways of making money from a blog. First register with Google Adsense. Enter that into your browser and follow all of the instructions. You will be able to offer adverts on your blog, and will be paid every time somebody clicks on an advert. They don’t have to buy anything, just click on the advert.

You should place your Adsense blocks somewhere on your sidebar, and also at the bottom of your blog so that when people have finished reading they have something to click on. If your reader reaches the end of your article, page of blog, it means that are interested in what are writing, otherwise they would have left and clicked on to somewhere else.

If you have nothing at the end of the post or the page, then people will feel somewhat let down. If you provide them with something to do, even just to click on an advert that interests them, then that is what they are liable to do. The theme of the adverts are determined by the Google contextual algorithm often called LSI, that determines the theme of your content through the vocabulary that you use in it.

You can also offer affiliate links on your blog: links to products being sold by others whereby you get a proportion of the sales price for each sales (frequently 50%). You can find lots of affiliate products to sell on Clickbank.com. or simply by entering the term into your favourite search engine. These links can take the form of banner ads, text links or clickable logo, and you can place them anywhere on your blog.

This applies predominantly for blogs run from your own website, where you have total editing over the html of the various components of your blog: the stylesheet that controls each complete page, the headers, footers, sidebars and everything else that makes up your blog. You do not have this degree of control over a hosted blog. If you want to use your blog to make real money, then it is necessary to have your blog on your own website rather than on a blog host such as Bloggit or Wordpress.com.

There are other ways in which to use your blog to make money, and blogging for profit and traffic is a combination of many sources of income and traffic generation techniques. Once you understand how to use these, you will find your blog a lot more useful than just a simple website.
