In the days of high-technology and television, image seems to be overly emphasized to any new artist who is trying to make it big. Having the right look that fits into the associated genre is definitely forced upon today’s artists. Yet, as consumers, do we really care?
Everyone has a different music album they have clung onto since they were young. Whether the Beatles, U2, or Sinatra, we all have someone different who has inspired us artistically. Catching a glimpse into the heart and soul of a musician and feeling the emotions they feel through their music is completely satisfying as a consumer.
Being able to identify with an artist definitely attracts us to their music. Appreciating where their musical story comes from and the love they pour into every word definitely has a way of stirring the soul. Those who are classed as singer songwriter’s, have an enticing edge in the music industry. The words they sing are sincere, personal, written by their own hand and heart.
Producing a catchy beat without much substance may put an artist in the spotlight for a short while, but it typically doesn’t last. Those who leave their mark produce music that is honest and expresses who they truly are as a person and musician. These people make music because it is their passion, not for a paycheck.
We all seem to be searching for that one hot adult contemporary artist on their way to fame. To say we knew and loved their music before they became the next multi-platinum selling artist is definitely self-gratifying. Staying off the top 40 list and exploring up and coming new artists is the way to go. When you finally hear a talented new musician, you’ll know it.
