How NFL Dog Collars Brought Our Family Together

At our house, we have quite the assortment of sports fans. My husband, having grown up in Boston, is a huge Red Sox fan. My oldest son, who takes more after his mother with his Southern roots, is a Nascar fanatic. Don't get me wrong, I may be from the South, but I do not claim any direct affiliation with Nascar (although a boyfriend I had in college dragged me to a race once, and I actually had a good time). And then, there is my youngest son, a football player in the making, no doubt, and a die-hard New York Giants fan. So as you can imagine, I get to be privy, usually via television, to a large and varied array of sporting events throughout the calendar year. You might imagine how thrilled this makes me, being the only woman in the house and all.
Even the dogs have been forced to take part; we've had several NFL dog collars in circulation over the years, my oldest had a Nascar dog collar, and my husband even bought one of those MLB dog jerseys for our beagle. As silly as I thought it was at first, she really looked cute in her Red Sox jersey. So cute, in fact, I took her picture and my husband liked it so much he proposed that we get a family photo made with everyone (including the dogs) in their respective team regalia. My husband's birthday was coming up, so I decided to humor him. Even my sons were into it, and for them to get even remotely excited about a family picture is a big deal.
So I scheduled the photo shoot to take place on my husband's birthday--I thought it would be fun for us to do, and he was really excited about it anyway. My sons got into all of their team wear, my husband put on his favorite Red Sox sweater and hat, and I threw on a t-shirt for the local women's roller derby team. We were a sight for sore eyes, but the dogs were even better. I ended up locating a couple of the NFL dog collars we had around the house, my son put a Nascar dog collar on our boxer, but the grand finale, of course, was our beagle. I thought the MLB dog jerseys looked a little ridiculous when my husband showed them to me online, but our dog looks so adorable in them. My husband will only admit that she looks "cool" and "sporty" but I think deep down inside he wants her to wear it cause she's so darn cute.
The pack of us strolled into the photographer's studio--Giants hats, Red Sox sweaters, roller derby tees, NFL dog collars, a Nascar dog collar, and one of the cutest MLB dog jerseys I've ever seen--and we were a sight to behold. You could tell the photographer was amused. We then proceeded to have a blast taking the pictures, laughing until it hurt. Even the dogs were enjoying themselves, the boys were actually enjoying having their picture taken, and best of all, my husband seemed to be having a wonderful time on his birthday. I must say, as much as sports gets on my nerves sometimes, it has helped to bring us all together. Who would've thought NFL dog collars and MLB dog jerseys could lead to such a memorable occasion?
