Are you interested following the Presidential election but feel that you don't understand enough about politics to cast your vote. Are you interested in politics but simply don't know where to start? There are several key ideas about politics in the United States that you must first understand before going ahead and casting your vote at the ballot.

One of the most important things about politics that you must understand is that you aren't necessarily voting for the candidate of your choice but you are also voting for the party that they represent. There are several different philosophies between the two major political parties with the United States.

Presidential candidate Barack Obama is the nominee for the Democrat party. The Democrat party is made up of liberals. Liberals believe strongly in due process, privacy, property and equality before the law. Liberals are usually pro choice, pro gay marriage, and against the death penalty.
