In the past 5 years, internet gaming, specifically gambling, has taken off considerably. However, there are a lot of variations on a theme with online games, and one in particular, bingo, can get quite confusing unless you know what you are doing!

In the US, and on US websites, bingo is played on a card of 25 numbers (out of a possible 75), in a 5x5 grid, and as the numbers are called out (at random), players check them off their card. A completed vertical, horizontal or diagonal line is called a ‘Bingo line’, and the first person to complete one of these wins the game.

The UK version of the game is played with 15 numbers (from a total of 90) in 3 rows of 5. The numbers are called in the same random fashion as the US game; however ‘Bingo’ or ‘House’ is called when all the numbers on the card have been checked off, and ‘Line’ is called when the player has completed a line of 5.

There are 6 main types of bingo game, these being: -

Regular bingo – The player has to check off numbers in a specific shape such as a line, an L-shape, 4 corners etc. Whoever completes the shape first, wins the game.

Combination bingo – This is where more than one game is being played with the same card. For example, the first game might be to get the 4 corners, then once this has been won, then next challenge could be to get a diagonal line, and then a full-house.

Pre-called bingo – In this game, there are a lot of numbers on each card, therefore some numbers are pre-called, at the start of the game. Sealed cards are used for this game, and the prize money is usually very big.

Odd-even bingo – This is a simple variant of the game where only odd or even numbers are called, and sealed cards are used for this game as well.

Progressive bingo – In this game, the winner must have a winning combination in a specific number of calls. If no winner is found within the specified number of calls, then the prize money is carried over into the next round.

Bonus bingo – These games are usually added on to combination games, but are not compulsory to all players. Those who decide to take part have to pay an extra fee for bonus prize eligibility, which is won in a very specific way.

No matter which online bingo game you decide to play, just remember to have fun and never play on when you have doubts about whether you can afford it.
